Antique Art Nouveau Ernst Wahliss Vienna pair of busts c 1900
Absolutely stunning antique pair of busts of a gorgeous Empire style lady and a gentleman with beautiful and richly ornate apparel. Designed and produced around 1900 by Ernst Wahliss, an Austrian ceramicist who created decorative porcelain and earthenware vessels for European elites. To meet the high demand for his pottery and sculptures, the artist opened his own department store, Wahliss, in Vienna. His works can be found in the collections of the Museum of Applied Arts and Sciences in Sydney, the Carnegie Museum of Art in Pittsburgh, and the Museum of New Zealand in Wellington, among others. Beautiful polychrome ceramics colour palette. Although a bit faded, it is marked to the underside in red underglaze'Depose-Wien Teplitz-Made in Austria' , Wahliss logo and production and serie number. Excellent condition, they are very detailed pieces, I couldn't find a chip, maybe a sharper eye would, but generally speaking they are amazing authentic pieces of Art Nouveau ceramics.
