RSt&K is Riessner, Stellmacher and Kessel, its also known as Amphora, and as Teplitz. The company was located in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, part of Austria-Hungary, and now in the Czech Republic.

Its okay to be a bit confused about the above. Its more important to know that they made some of the best Art Pottery of the Art Nouveau period. Amphoras stylistic diversity, combined with its standard of quality, made it a world leader among industrial manufacturers of Art Pottery. Art Nouveau in the Austro-Hungarian Empire was called Secession. The years 1894 to 1904 were Amphoras golden age.

Many examples like the vase Im offering here, were decorated with female faces resembling the then contemporary works of Gustav Klimt, Alphonse Mucha, and others. Nikolaus Kannhauser is the designer associated with the vase being offered. The sensuous form of this vase is decorated primarily in earthy green tones on an ivory ground. A dark blue is sparingly added for depth and gold washes achieve golden browns.

The profile of a maiden is surrounded by flowers and hair in motion. Other finely applied gold enhancements deliver extra detail and warmth, inscribed Atilla. This large three sided Amphora vase measures. An impressive 16.5 inches tall, by 7.5 inches at its widest point. The vase reverberates when thumped.

Blemishes have been photographed for your inspection. Back Panel to the right of front panel. Back Panel to the left of front panel. Amphora mark, with number 5.

Lip chip with detail, a thin line x. 0625 long, between back panels. Base chip, 3 views of same, seen on photo 5, between front & right back panel.

125 long, is seen on left panel divider in photo 2. The blackened area is a firing bubble that burst.

125 round, seen on photo 4, the two whole bubbles are on the same panel and a bit smaller. A fine example to display proudly within your collection. Thanks for looking and good luck!
