In 1919, he joined his father's werkstatte, where he created pieces in silver, brass, copper, stone and wood. Hagenauer was awarded two gold medals at the Triennale in Milan, and directed the wHw workshop (Werkstatte Hagenauer Wien) in Vienna until his death. This exceedingly rare set of Art Deco brass bookends designed by Karl Hagenauer in the 1920s, represent gazelles in profile on scalloped bases.
